Balance Awareness Week
September 19-25, 2010

The fourteenth annual Balance Awareness Week takes place September 19-25, 2010. Our theme this year is pediatric vestibular disorders.

The Vestibular Disorders Association (VEDA) established Balance Awareness Week in 1997 to raise awareness about the importance of balance and inner ear health to general wellbeing and quality of life.

Millions of people are affected by inner ear balance disorders. However, getting effective treatment is frequently complicated by the challenge of diagnosing the specific source of the problem. The impact on an individual's work, family, and personal life is often made worse by the disorder's invisibility to others. Balance Awareness Week was created to improve public understanding of inner ear balance disorders and their impact on the lives of affected individuals of all ages.

Have a vestibular disorder or care about someone who does? Please help VEDA to elevate public awareness about the challenges of living with an inner ear balance disorder by blogging about this event or by contacting your local media. (Organizing an event? Please let us know!)

Health care professionals: Balance Awareness Week is an ideal opportunity for your clinic to host an event and celebrate the work you do to help people with vestibular disorders. Ideas include:

  • host an expert speaker
  • demonstrate your services with a clinic Open House
  • conduct a pediatrics-themed support group meeting
  • offer reduced cost or free balance screenings
  • organize a VEDA fundraiser
  • link to VEDA's free publications on your Web site
  • contact local media using information from our Balance Awareness Week 2010 Facts

Contact media@vestibular.org with a brief description of your Balance Awareness Week event and its date, time, and  location, and we will promote it here!
