Participant Page: Stand With Me, Because I Can't Stand Alone!
Vestibular disorders affect millions of people each year, often in debilitating ways. Dizziness, vertigo, and ringing in the ears are just some of the symptoms of a vestibular disorder, and while some people recover, others suffer to some degree their entire lives.
Remember spinning as a child? Eventually falling down, just laying there loving every moment of your brain and eyes still spinning! Since my diagnosis with a Vestibular Disorder in 2003, I live that sensation almost every day and it's not fun anymore!
Most of us, have no idea how or where they got their Vestibular Disorder, but I do...Working as a Pediatric Occupational Therapy Assistant, a child accidently sneezed on me. In my face and mouth! I know, gross, but it certainly wasn't the first time. Fluids are to be expected with this population, but by the end of my work day, I was running a fever! One week later, still sick, I turned over in bed. WHOA! How do you become dizzy in your sleep? I got up, only to go down to the floor, spinning, spinning. I was misdiagnosed for over one year! One year of Vertigo, Vomiting, Nystagmus, Nausea, (or VVNN, just kidding!). I was forced to take my care into my own hands with the first ENT, it was ugly, but I left with a referral. A Neuro-Otolaryngologist FINALLY diagnosed me, Labyrinthitis and Vestibular Neuritis to my 8th Cranial Nerve (our balance nerve), which, for me, is permanent.
I found VEDA, in one of my countless web searches. It would appear, that 'all roads' lead back to VEDA. They have the most comprehensive and current information out there!
The Professionals associated with VEDA are among the best in our Nation. I should know, as the Physical Therapist who treated me, is a member of VEDA!
This is my first time campaigning...I hope to raise $750.00. With your support, VEDA will be able to continue to carry out its mission to inform, educate and advocate for the vestibular community. *Your donation goes directly to VEDA’s patient education programs. Donations also help VEDA make important advances for patients while connecting them to qualified healthcare professionals.* Click on the "DONATE NOW" button below to contribute today. Once you have completed the form, click "NEXT PAGE" at the bottom of the page. Then, click “CONFIRM CONTRIBUTION” to complete the process. It’s that easy!
