Don't Take Balance for Granted!
Sept 15 is Balance Awareness Week.
I support Veda because I have Menieres disease and the resources have been so important in helping me help myself. It is important to me to raise awareness about vestibular disorders which can change or greatly affect lives.
In 2013 I was diagnosed with Menieres disease and at the time it was very scary trying to figure out what was wrong. I was unable to walk, the room was spinning uncontrollably and wouldn't stop for days. .
Navigating through all the tests including MRI's, it was difficult to find answers and to receive medical support. It took quite some time to receive a diagnosis. During the onset, my life changed. I was unable to work, take care of basic responsibilities, ended up in hospital and was frightened.
At it’s worst, it’s a debilitating disease with vertigo attacks happening randomly. There are other symptoms including loss of hearing, tinnitus and fullness in the ear. Many people suffer silently from vestibular disorders. There are few outward symptoms while the world is spinning around us. I am happy I have improved, am back to work and managing my chronic vestibular disorder. However, it is something that continues to affect my life.
Bringing awareness to vestibular disorders that affect so many is truly personal and important to me. It is not a topic I was familiar at all with until it happened to me and many of the disorders are more common then you would believe.
The goal of Balance Awareness Week is to reduce the time it takes to diagnose a vestibular disorder. VEDA helps patients recognize the symptoms of a vestibular disorder and urge them to seek help from a professional specialist. VEDA also encourage family and friends to learn more about vestibular disorders so they can support their loved ones' who are suffering from dizziness and other debilitating symptoms. Awareness brings attention, attention can bring resources and research.
If you can donate to VEDA and support my cause in any small way, that is greatly appreciated. All donations are also tax deductible. .
If you have taken the time to read this and also check out the general info for Balance awareness week. That is also greatly appreciated!
Thank you and have a Dizzy-Free Day! -Jennifer :)
