Support Group Leaders—Help from VEDA

VEDA recognizes the important service support groups provide. We provide support group leaders with some materials to help them facilitate meetings, and offer to post news and contact information about their group so that others are aware of its availability. Resources offered include a Support Group Resource Kit that contains:

  • Documents on possible formats, topics, and general considerations for support group meetings
  • A sample meeting outline for leading a discussion on understanding a vestibular disorder as an invisible chronic illness
  • A document on learning to cope with vestibular disorders
  • A small booklet about building a self-help group, written by a medical doctor
  • Copies of our complete list of explanatory publications available from VEDA in case the group needs reference documents. This list includes a videotape/DVD that can be shown during meetings.
  • VEDA's current Resource List for the particular state or region of the world. This is a list of health professionals who specialize in vestibular disorders, including physicians, vestibular rehabilitation specialists (physical therapists and occupational therapists), audiologists, psychologists, etc.
  • VEDA membership brochures
  • Access to other support group leaders around the world in the event that collaboration with them would assist with handling certain issues or situations
  • Sample copies of On the Level, VEDA's quarterly newsletter
  • Tips for contacting guest speakers for the group meeting

In addition, VEDA increases the potential for people to find the support group because it publishes contact information about groups on our Web site and in On the Level.
