Participant Page: Lynn's Bobble Head's for Balance Awareness
Welcome to my bobble head page! I know you see the picture and you say "What's wrong?" Well I am a walking talking bobble head. My head looks like it is still but it is not. Just imagine if your head is in constant motion with your body being off balance and the eyes moving with it never to stop to fix on an object. This is what I deal with on a daily basis. I call it the "bobble head". I woke up one day with ringing in my ear, hearing loss, dizziness, nausea, and severe imbalance. I cannot complete daily routines like driving, working, laundry, showering, cooking, or even walking. I now need a cane or walker to help me balance to walk. My body is in constant motion so I constantly feel motion sickness with headache and nausea.
It took 6 months before doctors gave me an accurate diagnosis. Because time was lost, I now have permanent imbalance, hearing loss, tinnitus and osciliopsia. I have Bilateral Vestibular Hypofunction due to Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease (Cogan's Syndrome). There is little awareness and education for vestibular disorders. I often wonder if doctor's and specialist who treated me at onset were knowledgeable enough about vestibular disorders, they could've put me on high dose of steroids, or used other appropriate treatments, and maybe it would have saved my hearing and balance. I am living in a nightmare. I felt alone and needed validation. So, I reached out to VEDA (Vestibular Disorders Association) for support. I am so thankful to
God. They have offered me support in many ways that helps me cope and manage my symptoms.
