The 3rd week of every September is Balance Awareness Week, a global event to raise awareness of balance loss, vertigo, dizziness, and other vestibular conditions.
Most people are not familiar with the term "vestibular," which refers to the inner ear system that communicates with the brain to help us understand our position in space. However, many of us have experienced that disorienting moment when we lose our balance. Whether these symptoms develop gradually or suddenly, dizziness, vertigo, and nausea can turn everyday tasks into significant challenges.
VeDA (Vestibular Disorders Association) launched Balance Awareness Week (BAW) in 1997 to bring attention to these often invisible balance disorders. Increased awareness helps us understand and support those affected, including family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. While many balance disorders are incurable, quicker and more accurate diagnosis, combined with effective coping strategies, can significantly improve the quality of life for those living with these chronic conditions.
This September 15-21, 2024 is Balance Awareness Week. Together, we can support individuals battling dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance as they strive for a life rebalanced.
VeDA's Balance Awareness Week event is the official event for the global Balance Awareness Week initiative. You can participate in the official Balance Awareness Week by registering for VeDA's Balance Awareness Week "Flock" and using the tools listed below.
Join VeDA in making vestibular visible and supporting those on their journey to a life rebalanced.
This year we are joining together to form the BAW Flamingo Flock. In honor of VeDA's mascot, Fiona Flamingo, you'll be part of a team who is speaking up about vestibular awareness. As a member of the Flock you will be in the loop for all things BAW. Let the world know that you will fight for balance awareness by registering today.
If you have already registered to host a peer-to-peer fundraiser you can log in to update your profile, add details about your vestibular journey, and see who is contributing to your page.
