#214 Web Conference Traumatic Brain Injury and Concussion

Conference

Brain injuries are a major health concern and cause extremely diverse impairments and functional limitations. Areas that may be affected included cognition, mood, vision, vestibular, cervical spine, and sleep. Brain injury patients may also have headaches or migraines. Patients who have had brain injuries or concussion should thus be managed according to their unique presentations of signs and symptoms. Brain injury management requires a multi-disciplinary approach. This course is designed for Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Assistants and Athletic Trainers. Brain injury patients may be seen in all settings including inpatient, rehabilitation, SNF, and outpatient.

The course begins with a comprehensive overview of brain injury including the epidemiology, etiology, mechanisms of injury, classification of severity, and pathophysiology. This course will focus on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Severe, Moderate, and Mild categories of dysfunction will be discussed in depth.  A major focus on day 2 will be on mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) also known as Concussions since these are 90% or more of Traumatic Brain Injuries.
