Advanced Vestibular Rehabilitation Considering Current Research

Course Summary:

This course will integrate new research findings with clinical treatment ideas. The content is broad and includes topics related to novel tests of vestibular function, emerging technologies for vestibular rehabilitation, and common clinical challenges associated with treating patients with vestibular disorders.

Upon completion of this course, participants will:

-Describe new concepts in motor learning within the VOR

-Understand when to refer patients for vestibular testing

-Apply advanced skills to treat peripheral and central vestibular hypofunction, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, concussion, and vestibular migraine

-Identify pathological eye movement implicating the oculomotor and vestibular systems

-Perform clinical skills to distinguish different causes for vertical ocular misalignment

-Utilize tests and measures for managing patients with vestibular disorders

-Describe new tests of vestibular function (torsion during head tilt, computer-controlled rotational head impulse test, etc.)

-Describe emerging technologies that will impact vestibular rehabilitation

-Identify common reasons for delayed compensation

-List common causes that can impair recovery from having a vestibular disorder
