Northwell’s 9th Vestibular Symposium: “In the Eye of the Beholder”

Event

Daniel Gold, DO, Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery, Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins University and Janet Helminski, PT, PhD, Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, College of Health Professions, Rosalind Franklin University will present “Nystagmus & Oscillations – When to worry!” and “Visual Experience Drives Compensation and Adaptation of the Vestibular Ocular Reflex” as a part of Northwell’s 9th Vestibular Symposium titled “In the Eye of the Beholder.”

Objectives of the course include:

  1. Define nystagmus and saccadic intrusions
  2. Identify nystagmus red flags and green flags
  3. Describe the mechanisms of neuroplasticity that occur following common peripheral vestibular lesions that result in vestibular hypofunction.
  4. Create the optimal visual experience to drive compensation and adaptation of the VOR.
  5. Design, implement, and modify evidence-based interventions for peripheral vestibular hypofunction that incorporate contemporary motor control theories, motor learning principles, and principles of neuroplasticity
