Recently seen an ENT consultant after having vertigo, fatigue, hearing loss and tinnitus for years. GP said he thinks its meniere's disease.

The ENT consultant said it was "a made up disease by people who don't know what they are talking about and can't find any other diagnosis, dont Google it"

Didn't discuss any other symptoms and when I tried to talk about them he just nodded and checked my ears, then discharged me.

I obviously googled it and it seems like a legit disease, so I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or if anyone has been in the same boat. Is it worth getting a diagnosis?

Hi Aimee, Meniere's disease is not a made up condition. It can be debilitating for those that have it. Here is an article from our website: https://vestibular.org/article/diagnosis-treatment/types-of-vestibular-disorders/menieres-disease/

What is an ENT consultant? Are they a doctor? If you can, find a different ENT. Menieres is a real diagnosis.

@andree-scollard Thank you very much for that article - it's a good read. I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease around 1997 so not long after the disease was given the name. I used to get severe attacks maybe once a year and would end up at the ER due to uncontrolled vomiting. Now I go for several years with no issues but I do notice things get worse at the end of summer and beginning of Fall here in Central PA. This year it started about 3 days ago with general lightheadedness and dizziness episodes if I lift my head quickly or even sometimes when I turn my head while lying in bed. Also, my constant tinnitus has been louder the last few days. That can be a sign that a bigger attack is coming, but I hope not. So, I am working harder to reduce sodium intake, increasing cardio exercise as I can, and trying to stay hydrated.
