libby I am going to start acupuncture any day now. I am in my 7th week also. So off balance headache and very weak
I had first shot 2/5....major vertigo 24 hours later then major dizziness, aural fullness and tinnitus. Took 9 weeks to feel “normal” tough tinnitus is cranked up. Told ENT I am NOT taking second shot fearing this will happen again and not subside. Did some vestibular PT that seemed to help.
Any of you have gone to a neurologist or to an ear specialist?
I have symptoms that belongs to neurologists, like strong headache, brain fog.
And I also have pressure in my ear sometimes, and balancing problems.
Who has gone to doctors, what did your doctors say? Will it gone or it is a permanent nerve disfunction caused from vaccine? Did they find any disorder?
I am full of fear that I have to get used to these symptoms in my daily life forever...
@jonthesticks Wow that is weird that is pretty as close to the symptoms as I have found. Such as weird feeling. Its like a mix of brain fog and groggy/unsteady feeling. Is yours any better?
@libbysimon Thanks so much for your report. I'm going to see an acupuncturist tomorrow to help me get over dizziness, vertigo and just not feeling up-to-par.
I had problems with muffled hearing in my right ear in January 2021. I went to ENT and took steroids and a diuretic Triamterene. Problem seemed to mostly go away after I stopped taking blood pressure med Lisinopril in late February. I would say I was 99% back to normal. On April 14 I took first dose of Moderna. On April 26 I noticed rash on my arm and muffled hearing increasing. I went to different ENT and I'm taking Hydrochlorothiazide to relieve inflamation/pressure in my inner ear.
ENT and my doctor think it's coincidence about the Lisinopril and the vaccine, since nobody knows what causes hydrops. I kind of agree, but I don't plan on getting second dose.
I've been so grateful to find this site... I spent hours looking for any sort of confirmation or reassurance from any sort of study/news/CDC release/ANYTHING that will officially confirm the vaccine will cause this vertigo and extreme dizziness up to 2 weeks later after the shot.
My wife has been suffering for about a week now. April 17th she got her first Moderna shot and about last weekend this extreme dizziness and nausea started, and has yet to go away. She's miserable. Most places say "oh that's only something that could happen within the first two days," something that only terrified us further because we're then left wondering which of the millions of possible other issues could be to blame. Then we found here and sure enough. The posts here describe EXACTLY what is happening to her. She at times describes it as almost a feeling of being drunk. The morning is the worst and so far she always vomits to start off the day. Fast movements absolutely are off limits. I'm so scared that this won't go away for her.
As for my experience I got off much luckier but I do also have some occasional dizzy spells, I had maybe one today and I was able to, not literally, shake it off.
My main concern is my wife more than anything. This is the only place that has given us some hope about this. Thank all of you for sharing your experiences and timelines...
I had my first Moderna dose on March 4. Second on April 1. Four days after the first dose, I began to experience vertigo. At the time of second dose, symptom had abated. Four days after second dose, symptom reappeared worse than first time. It's now a month after second dose and I still have dizziness accompanied by brain fogginess. Intensity has lessened, but there are ups and downs. I have read that a symptom of "long COVID" is similar to this vaccine effect.
I am a 53 yo female. I received my first Pfizer shot on March 25th. I found this website while desperately searching for a cause to my first episode of vertigo 16 days after my shot. I thought I was either having a stroke or brain aneurysm. It was terrifying and lasted a couple hours. Since then, I have been dealing with dizziness and headaches but the dizziness has been debilitating. I have not been able to function normally which has drastically affected my ability to work or even leave my house. I had menopausal migraines for a few years but not a single one in the last two years. When I found this website, this thread was 91 pages long, I cannot believe it is 139 now! I finally registered because after following it, I began to try some of the suggestions and have found the one thing that has made me feel almost normal. Like all of you, I have been desperate to get my life back. I began to read how a number of people were trying antihistamines with nasal decongestants and took one of my mother's Claritin D pills. Most of my dizziness and brain fog were gone in a couple of hours! I had tried Zyrtec for a few days with no change but then my mother told me that she tried all of the antihistamines on the market for her severe allergies before finding the one that worked for her. From what I understand, that is not uncommon. I am only able to take the 12 hour instead of the 24 hour because I wasn't able to sleep at night. I stick with Ibuprofen at night. So, every morning after breakfast, I take EmergenC, tumeric, Claritin D, vitamin D3, and Ibuprofen but it was the Claritin D that was the game changer for me. I know different things are working for different people but I wanted to share my experience in the off chance that it might help even one person. I am so thankful that after searching "covid vaccine vertigo" this and one another site came up. I don't know what I would have done if I was left to think that I was alone. Thank you all for taking the time to share your experiences. Oh, I did cancel my second shot and filed a VAERS report.
I'm a retired PA so I have some insight into BPV which I actually have been diagnosed with myself about a year ago. I'm 73. I went through Vestibular Rehab and it helped. I also was exposed to and tested + for COVID in November. I had mild symptoms, tested negative a month later, accompanied by + IgG ABs. After supposedly clearing the virus and about a month later, my vertigo worsened. I went through about 3w of that and then it slowly resolved returning to baseline. I came to this forum to see if others have experienced vertigo from the vaccines and yes, I can see people have.
My wife (75) and I both received the two dose regimen of Pfizer vaccines completing those on February 24th. Neither of us had any immediate side effects. Last week, my wife awoke with severe vertigo and was immobilized for around 6h. The symptoms gradually resolved. She's about a 2 on the 1-10 scale now and has mild bouts very similar to mine, with my own BPV, which my wife has never had nor previously experienced any dizzyness.
I have no doubt in my mind that both COVID infection and now the vaccines are involved in inducing vertigo. It is very likely inflammation of the neurologic tissues secondary to a normal immune response to SARS-2. An important neurologic pathway that I think is involved is the afferent and efferent nerves. This pathway carries proprioceptive signals and is involved in the interrelationship of our balance mechanisms. Based on a study of 2 so, anecdotally, the inflammation seems to subside over time and in my case vertigo returned to baseline. In my wife's case, having had no problems with vertigo in the past, I expect her symptoms to completely resolve - she's probably 60% there already.
Meclizine - an antihistamine class drug - at 25mg (OTC Bonine sold at 12.5mg) helps. Only antihistamines that cross the blood brain barrier will have much affect so chose antihistamines wisely. Generally, the non-sedating antihistamines like Allegra won't do much. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) makes many people sleepy or hyperactive. Meclizine seems to be better tolerated and provide decent relief from dizziness. Take OTC Bonine 12.5mg, 2 tabs once per day or get an MD RX for Mecliziine 25mg.
Very helpful Jeff, thank you.
@teresawarren40 I appreciate your insight. I do however have a question for you. I'm almost 2 1/2 months with the Moderna Vaccine and I've seen some improvements but it seems that I get brain fog, body, and exhaustion by the end of the day especially when active. I still have a bit of lingering headache and slight vision in one eye being blurry. I was wondering if you think this POTS hypothesis being an issue for me and will I potentially get better?..I'm just wondering because I'm muscling through but I'm just getting frustrated with not being back to my old self again...your insight would be greatly appreciated!
*UPDATE*
I had the first Pfizer vaccine on March 17, 2021. I woke up with vertigo 5 days after the first vaccine, it quickly resolved that day. I did test positive for strep and had liquid in both ears. We shrugged off the vertigo to the liquid in the ears. I took 10 days of an antibiotic and I felt fine, no vertigo or dizziness. Felt good for 3 weeks. I have never experienced vertigo prior to the vaccine.
On April 9, 2021 I took the 2nd Pfizer vaccine. I woke up to vertigo 13 days later. I tried to get out of bed and I fell back on my pillow. I could not walk without holding onto furniture. I called the otologist and she prescribed a prednisone steroid pack. I started feeling better and could walk without holding onto furniture. I was concerned about taking a shower or driving and getting dizzy. I have been at home for 12 days taking supplements, eating an anti-inflammatory diet(no dairy, no gluten, no soy, corn, etc.) and slowly walking outside. I went to Urgent Care at my doctor's office because my ears were burning and my neck hurt with movement. Today is the first day I feel more normal.
The vertigo only occurs when lying down or getting up out of bed. The daily dizziness is slowly getting better. My ear and neck pain is getting better. I've been doing warm hot packs on my ears and neck, eating well, hydrating and taking Tart Cherry, Fish Oil, Turmeric with Curcumin. For me, it has been slowly getting better with some serious self-care at home.
