Hearing lost, friendship gained

Ilsa Shilton was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease at 82 and began losing her hearing and experiencing vertigo. Following her hearing loss, she got involved in an organization called Guide Dogs where she met others with similar health problems. She started a support group, got involved in many other groups, traveled for conferences and to spread her mission, and was awarded as Order of Australia Medal in 1994 for work service to women.
