21 years in to my dizziness journey

I always knew I'd find the answer eventually.

Age: 53

Diagnosis: Mal de débarquement

Hi folks! So here I am, 21 years in to my dizziness journey, and finally I’m seeing improvement.

Before my very first case of MdDS I was very overworked in a stressful job. I was in my early 30s and burning the candle at both ends. I got on a plane for 24 hours to fly to meet my boyfriend’s family for the first time on the other side of the world – talk about stress!

I was dizzy the entire 6 weeks I was there, but it settled once we got back home.

We traveled long haul every 2 years since 2001 and I got MdDS every time.

I was diagnosed with MdDS by an ENT about 6 years in to this journey, but I basically told him what I had!

I had to leave my job as a Head Chef, as the episodes lasted longer and longer each trip I was on, lasting up to 8 months after getting off the plane. Then I got spontaneous MdDS when the world went in to lockdown; stress again.

I’ve seriously tried everything out there: medications, vestibular therapy, acupuncture, kinesiology, contact care, chiropractors, and the lesser known things like spiritual healers, etc., but nothing has helped.

In December of 2022 I came across Dr. Yonit Arthur at The Steady Coach on YouTube and I did her free course, then I joined the Curable app. Both cover the same stuff, which is addressing the amount of stress our body is under, learning not to fear the symptoms as fearing the symptoms just keeps the stress loop going. Also addressing past trauma, especially in childhood, but adult trauma too. I had an emotionally unavailable mother, for example, who had bipolar disorder. It teaches self-care, and I have pretty much zero dizzy days now.

I encourage anyone reading this who has a similar life story to look in to this way of healing.

Chronic dizziness comes under the same umbrella as chronic pain, it’s just way less common, where as chronic pain is very common. On the Curable app they mainly talk about pain, but it’s exactly the same process to cure dizziness. It’s been a huge game changer, and if anyone had told me 6 months ago that past trauma and my internal stress and people pleasing personality was causing my dizziness I would of said, whatever, that sounds mad. Well, here I am, basically cured.

There is a way out, pretty incredible after 21 years of never knowing what was causing my MdDS. I’m living proof.

I highly recommend Googling Dr. Sarno, who discovered TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome) 30 years ago, Dr. Shubiner, who learned Dr Sarno’s teachings, and also Dan Bugleo on YouTube at Pain Free You. They will seriously change your life.

So yes, I just wanted to let others know about this incredible resource. If you have any questions, please let me know over on Instagram @my_crystal.journey.
