One of the most common challenges for a person after an MTBI is to communicate the symptoms effectively they are experiencing. Often the extent of their symptoms goes initially unnoticed, and the person loses valuable time to heal and return to function properly. This leads to psychological distress, physical limitations, and often depression until appropriate treatment is identified and executed. Medical professionals with a deep understanding of complex issues related to concussion and evidence-based treatment are the key to a person’s successful rehabilitation and return to a quality of life.

Laura Morris, PT, NCS, along with Doctors Samuel Hunter and Behar discuss the implications of concussion, therapeutic management, and progression. The perspective from a team approach provides insight into the total care needed for the successful treatment for these patients.

This course will cover neuroanatomy and the more complex issues associated with a concussion injury; it is applicable for physical, occupational therapists and assistants, and athletic trainers in addition to nurses. For occupational therapists, this course falls under the category of occupational therapy service delivery for evaluation and intervention.

AOTA: This course’s Professional activity focuses on Foundation Knowledge for the Occupational Therapist.  Topics related to the diagnosis and conditions encountered by OT practitioners and provide medical information, background, and context relevant to occupational therapy practice. PD activities focus on diagnosis and conditions, neuroscience, and behavior.
