Hi everyone,
I think this post will change the quality of life for many people here. Like you, I have struggled with problems since my first vaccination. Eventually, after visiting many doctors, I was able to understand the cause and was cured within a month. In fact, I still find it hard to believe that it was so simple.
The symptoms I had appeared a week after the vaccination and increased for about two months, then reached a peak.
The symptoms I had and my girlfriend ( we both had the same problems since the first vaccination, I will explain why shortly):
1. dizziness
2. diarrhea, bloating, gurgling in stomach
2. heart rate spikes (over 150 at times) along with shortness of breath and feeling like im going to pass out
3. problem with physical activity such as running, weightlifting, after a while there was shortness of breath
4. sleepiness
5. brain fog ( problems with putting sentences together, confusing words)
6. drops in blood pressure
7. very strong depressed mood
I noticed quite quickly like many people here that antihistamines such as hydroxizinum gave me relief, I just didn't understand why.
I did all the intestinal testing. that is possible, did allergy testing, ruled out MCAS, finally found something that matched my symptoms perfectly, including ONE very distinctive one:
A problem with sleeping on my left side, as soon as I lay down in that position I would start having shortness of breath. In general, we both had very big sleep problems.
All symptoms matched Rhoemheld Syndrome, here is a list of symptoms of this syndrome:
Sinus bradycardia
Difficulty inhaling
Angina pectoris
Left ventricular discomfort
Premature heart beats (PVC / PAC)
Tachycardia
Fatigue
Anxiety
Uncomfortable breathing
Poor perfusion
Muscle pain (crampiness)
Burst or sustained vertigo or dizziness
Sleep disturbance (particularly when sleeping within a few hours of eating, or lying on the left side)
Hot flashes
As you can see these symptoms are very similar to what most of you have, plus a lot of people here have talked about the metallic aftertaste which is also a very big clue that I unfortunately did not have in my case, which is why it took me so long to unravel it.
So what was going on with us?
After receiving the vaccination there was a strong reflux, the acid in the stomach gained a lot of strength (hence the burning in the chest or burning stomach in many people here). After a time (several weeks) of such strong acid battering the walls of the esophagus, we developed erosions and esophagitis.
The Vagus Nerve is located just behind the stomach, so when there is strong irritation of the membranes of the digestive system there is excessive stimulation which gives all the symptoms of rhoemheld syndrome. I noticed pretty quickly that I felt stressed after eating something irritating like lemon or something on coarse salt. It just hurt my throat which irritated the vagus nerve which reacted with a stress reaction.
After the gastroscopy and confirmation of my suspicions, my girlfriend and I enrolled in a gastrologist. We were given 60 mg of PPI for three months, I am currently on my second month, only after a month of treatment (!) I noticed burning in my throat and esophagus.
After two months, except for the burning in the esophagus (I am still under treatment, it takes a long time to heal), I no longer have any symptoms. Half a month ago, when I ate spicy food (not a very good idea when you have epigastrium) I immediately felt the familiar feeling of uneasiness and an elevated heart rate, which only strengthened my conviction that this is the cause.
In conclusion, do a gastroscopy, if something comes out there go to a gastrologist, the cause lurks there. I found one post here that described a similar theory only that there the reason was supposed to be gas. Gas right after eating is caused by inflammation of the lining of the stomach, it is not the cause, but additionally increases the symptoms of rhoemheld syndrome.
I would like to add again that all this time before treatment and at the beginning of treatment I had NO typical symptoms of reflux or esophagitis. Only gastroscopy showed it
Driving, work, nothing is a problem for me anymore, three months ago I thought it would never end, good luck!
@hdmzcyxxdw: Thank you for the informative post. I do think that very many people on this forum have suffered from similar symptom, including me. I find it interesting that you connected this to the gut/gastro issues and the Vagus nerve (which I have also thought was the source for a lot of this). I, too, have a number of these symptoms, including:
- Rapid heart rate, usually on standing of minor activity
- Heart palpitations/skipped beats, which came out of nowhere and have me majorly stressed
- Heightened anxiety and panic attack feelings that I’ve never had before
- Bloating and gas/burping after eating or drinking anything
- Definite brain fog. Frequently struggle to find the right words/put together a simple sentence/thought
I had read about Rhoemheld Syndrome before in my research about these vaccine adverse reactions but never gave it much weight. I think the connecting to the Vagus nerve is the key, as that gives it a direct connection to the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.
Can you tell me which PPI & dose you have been prescribed? I think I’m going to have to ask for a gastroscopy, as insane as it may sound to my PCP. I do understand that PPI’s have their own side effects and have to be carefully managed. Thanks again for taking the time to come on here and share your success story. There are so many of us and we need stories like yours.
I would love to tell you but I don't want to sound like some kind of advertisement because I would lose credibility. Definetely if there will be something wrong in your stomach doctor will know what to do 🙂
Generally I also had no typical symptoms of reflux, that was the most surprising thing. I did a gastroscopy for the reason that I've had reflux for years and saw some signs that were suspicious, such as tightness in my chest when running (acid jumps into the esophagus when jumping up and irritates the membranes).
One other interesting element that didn't match anything else was that the gas after a meal appeared immediately, not after a few hours, I literally barely ate and the gas occurred. This was strange because in the case of sibo and other diseases in which gas occurs there is a gap of about 3 hours from eating to gas.
I'm after almost three months of treatment and I'm still having small signs that my diagnosis is correct, yesterday for example I ate a very large dinner with a lot of ketchup and immediately after that I went for a bike ride, when I came back I had slight PVCs, literally with a few heart "skips", nothing as strong as it was before treatment but it shows that the problem is correlated with what you eat. The bent position on the bike, riding in the pits caused the acid jumps into esophagus. three months ago with such riding I would have come home with panic attacks
@ksharky13 If you have burping immediately after a meal and PVCs it wont sound crazy to your doctor, especially the first one is typical symptom of stomach problems, usually when we have inflamation there there will be too fast digestion which causes burping or too slow digestion, in my case it was switching from one to another all the time. There was never just 'okay', always I was either hungry or I didnt had an apetite after eating almost nothing all the day cause it was sitting in my stomach
@hdmzcyxxdw: Thank you so much for your replies, they are very much appreciated. Yes, I have burping pretty much right after (and basically during) meals. And eating does seem to trigger PVCs. Although my PVCs do happen at any time, at rest and not at rest/being active. I also get rapid heart rate upon standing sometimes, but not enough to think it’s technically POTS. The anxiety/panic attack feelings are very strong and disturbing. Definitely deal with some brain fog, too.
I also don’t have any typical reflux symptoms at all. Everything seems to feed off of each other. PVCs create increased anxiety, increased anxiety triggers PVCs, increased PVCs can spike heart rate, etc. it’s a vicious circle, and it’s hard to determine what’s physical vs. mental.
After trying to find the root cause(s), potential solutions, and being frustrated time and again, I have to admit this one sounds too good to be true. That said, it does cover just about everything I’ve been dealing with for nearly a year now. Question: some of my symptoms, like the PVCs, didn’t start until several months after my last dose. Do you think that matters?

hi sorry you are still dealing with with this. Have you caught covid at all? I was gonna say ask to be referred to a covid clinic or a vax injured clinic. I hope you get better soon.

I have not had covid, at least to my knowledge. I do think that @hdmzcyxxdw is definitely on to something with the Roemheld Syndrome theory. It really matches up with a lot of the symptoms/issues that a lot of people on here are dealing with. And with the connection between the gut, the heart and the Vagus nerve, it all makes sense. I know you have been dealing with so many issues. I hope that yoou start to feel better soon.

please share the knowledge…like is there a specific diet? Should we do cold showers? Do we need to stimulate the vagus nerve? And add probiotics? What have you read about it

See @hdmzcyxxdw's post near the top of page 1135 that he posted on February 13th. His situation may not match yours, but it certainly is pretty darned close to mine. Hope it helps. I'm at the point where everyone, family and physicians, are basically telling me it's just anxiety. I'd love for that to be the case but I truly don't think it is.

It makes sense, damage of stomach/esophagus lining doesnt occur in a second. Before vaccine I already had shortness of breath sometimes after eating something spicy etc. Had it for some time but it was not so problematic so I didnt care. Then from month to month it started to get worse and after first dose it started to get significantly worse, but this was a process too, not like I just woke up with this.
Yes, I have burping pretty much right after (and basically during) meals
this is typical symptom which does not occur in other gastrointestinal diseases. Burping immediately after a meal is strong suggestion that the problem comes from stomach.
I also get rapid heart rate upon standing sometimes, but not enough to think it’s technically POTS
yep, had that too. The solution, the temporary solution is to increase salt intake, but salt without iodine which is pretty rough for esophagitis/gastritis/acid reflux (but maybe its just me). The reason is that probably like in my case rhoemheld is causing low heart rate. I remember checking on my smart watchwhen I was lying down after a meal and I had 47 resting HR, then after some time when I had to do something nervous it jumped to 160. You can get some smart watch or something and check it up. I was scared as hell when it promped out 43 one time.
And one time when I was walking after a meal I get 62 heart rate after one hour of walking on the hill in the middle of the summer! My gf had 118 HR at that time. I felt like I will pass out, I've got to the hospital and they checked me out from bottom to the top. Guess what? NOTHING. 😀 heart, diabetes, hormones, they checked everything. I remember that when I woke up after night at hospital I felt so much better but they basically didnt do anything. Now I know why, the bed had big incline so i wasnt for the first time sleeping on flat surface which was causing acid jumping back to esophagus
PVCs create increased anxiety, increased anxiety triggers PVCs, increased PVCs can spike heart rate, etc. it’s a vicious circle, and it’s hard to determine what’s physical vs. mental
Nope, it's not like this, your theory is saying that PVCs were first, this is impossible. They are usually caused by something, it's not like we are all crazy or something, it's real problem especially that in my case it was usually happening when i was having fun and was chilling. And my PVCs were getting stronger when I was lying down (acid travelled back to the esophagus)
You said that PVCs happen often after a meal, it's typical and I had that too. The reason for them is not anxiety, it is:
Often the pressure is in the fundus of the stomach, esophagus or distention of the bowel. It is believed this leads to elevation of the diaphragm, and secondary displacement of the heart. This reduces the heart's ability to fill and increases the contractility of the heart to maintain homeostasis.
That also explains why those anxiety and racing heart symptoms are happening, heart is a bit elevated and body is in stress cause it's real problem.
I remember when I had it that I toke some relax pills, dont remember their name (and im from the other part of the world from usa so you probably use something else) anyway I took two of them which should calm the elephant and NOTHING. I was trying to get some sleep and I was getting shortness of breath and PVCs all the time. After four hours of trying to sleep I gave up and sat on the massage chair. IMMEDIATELY I falled asleep, this happened for over two weeks before I realised that each time I'm sitting on chair I can fall asleep but I can't when I'm lying down. If this would be anxiety thing those pills should knock me out but nothign happened, I guess this stress coming from vagus nerve when heart is elevated is pretty primal and we cannot control it.
Endoscopy is not fun but I think that it's worth trying, it's not risky or anything. If you have other questions reach me out, I was studying this thing for two years before I healed up.
And, im not sure I told this, my gf had THE SAME thing as me, but in her case it started month after me ( so delay may vary as in your case 3 months). And the EXACT same thing, erosive esophagitis 😀 Totally same symptoms, pvcs etc. She didnt even had acid reflux before 😀
Anyone else have like 6-8 months of remission, and then all of a sudden the dizziness and brain vibrations come back hard? The last 2 weeks the dizziness has come on really strong. I am 15 months out from the booster and thought I was done with all these issues.
@margaret2022 hey wht did the functional doc tell you. Mine did a metal toxicity test and found levels of mercury, aluminum etc high. So am on a detox plan now with loads of supplement
hello how are you? How’s your dextox going? How’s the hearing sensitivity going for you? Hope to hear from you
