Update -

Second Moderna shot 4/20

Vertigo/dizziness/vomiting/headaches/double vision started 4/30

Went to Physical Therapy to learn proper Epley Maneuvers 5/3

I am 2 weeks post side effects

Vertigo gone after Epley Maneuvers every day 3x first week with 600 mg ibuprofen 3x/day

Stopped ibuprofen second week and Epley Maneuvers 1x a day which I stopped Wednesday

Today I have slight dizziness with some nausea and head aches are slight only in morning

I am still not driving, don’t trust yet

I feel 50% better than last Friday

Feeling more myself - able to walk and bend over with minimal dizziness

Double vision is gone and I see normal

Time has been the best treatment post maneuvers and ibuprofen

More commiseration here. Man, 47, smoker, coffee drinker. I had my first shot of Astrazeneca two weeks ago. The AstraZ is associated with deadly blood clots, so if anything weird happens, you immediately think "Deadly blood clots!"

One week went by when I had my first dizzy spell, my head tilting forward very suddenly over my keyboard. My heart began racing. Naturally, I thought "Deadly blood clot!" The dizzy spell lasted only a moment but the light-headedness remained for a good hour. I attributed the rapid heart rate to a stress response.

The next week went by smoothly - no issues. Then, boom, another dizzy spells over the keyboard, rapid heart rate. This time I went to the ER. EKG was normal, blood sample came back normal (the nurse mentioned blood samples are standard for anyone who got the AstraZ).

24-hours later, I'm still light-headed. I feel hyper-alert to the possibility of stumbling or passing out. There's extra weight in my head, like lead.

I'm a bit relieved reading this forum because it seems that Pfizer and Moderna recipients are also getting the dizzies. I take that to mean "No deadly blood clot!" I'm far less relieved to learn that, based on all accounts, this won't be going away any time soon. And apparently, I still have tinnitus to look forward to.

The most recurring explanation I found here and elsewhere involves an allergic reaction. In any case, my second dose is 3 months away. Gives me time to think.

I found another forum that looks a lot like this one: No answers, just reports of dizziness week after week. I don't know if they'll let me post the link, but here goes:

I had my second Moderna shot on May 6.  Felt fine that day, but the next morning I woke up with pretty bad vertigo and dizziness.  I pretty much slept all day.  By day 3, it improved, but was still there.  Didn't stay in bed all day, but didn't do much else.  Day 4, it was manageable enough to go out and about, though I tired quickly.  Today marks a week past my 2nd vaccine and I'm still experiencing vertigo and dizziness.  It was getting much better, until last evening.  Had been ok all day, then just before dinnertime, I had an episode where I was totally off balance.  Ended up eating and went to bed.  This morning I'm still feeling it.  When will this stop!?  I don't currently have a primary doctor, so not sure what to do.

I have not posted with an update in a while. My first dose was March 28th and 2nd dose was April 18th. This was the Pfizer vaccine. I had no flu like symptoms, no fever, etc. It did cause a big vestibular flare up though. My neurologist was not surprised and said it happened to many. We just had to give it time. We also were hoping that my dose of Ajovy in May would help. I have good days, and I have bad days. Nothing has really changed though. However, my neurologist decided it had gone on long enough that he wanted to do some more involved blood work. I had three results come back with concerns. I have never had any issues bloodwork wise. Now I have things out of whack. He is asking my primary care doctor to do some additional testing to help get answers. Did some reaction to the vaccine cause this? Who knows. All we do know is that now someone perfectly healthy who previously had optimal vitamin D levels, perfect across the board glucose and other numbers, and zero thyroid issues before the vaccine  now is having problems with all three.

This is the first I've heard of post vaccine issues with Vitamin D levels, blood sugar or thyroid.  Doesn't surprise me, though.  Keep us posted.

@hippo33 I think it's some type of inflammation which is part of a normal immune response to, for example, vaccinations, infections etc. I did have an ESR blood test which came back normal however. My neurologist didn't discount that this could be some inflammatory response to the vaccine and agreed to put me on a Medrol pack which unfortunately didn't do much. I'm over 15 weeks out from the onset of my symptoms i.e. vertigo, dizziness, headaches and tinnitus. The last five days or so, I've been taking Flonase, Azelastine (nasal antihistamine) and hydrochlorothiazide (12.5 mg) which is a diuretic. Honestly for the past few days, I don't know if it's the new meds or just my body finally starting to heal but I'm feeling better (knock on wood). I also have my second session of vestibular rehab with my PT. I've been really bad about doing the exercises at home though. Tinnitus hasn't gone away and I have a feeling that might be permanent.

@scottdetweiler Sorry to hear about your issues. As you can see from the forum, it's a common pattern that we've gone through. Please let us know how the intratympanic steroid injection goes for you.

After starting a Medrol pack yesterday, my cheeks got red and swollen on either side of my nose today. Maybe this is a common, harmless side effect, but I'm in unfamiliar territory with this med, so I'm waiting to hear back from my primary doc before continuing dosing with it today. I'm not used to chasing a cure ...feels a bit like a game of Whack-A-Mole. Hit one spot, then a varmint appears in another spot!

@lpycb42, thanks for your feedback. Its been slightly over 3 weeks now for me too after 1st dose. I have started Physical therapy. I think the instances of dizziness have reduced but still there for me. Dizziness is usually coupled with tightness in the back of head or neck especially looking at computer screen or phone. i dont think the doctors have a good answer to this yet since ENT and Neuro checks normal. hopefully this goes away. I would be curious to know if anyone else if also feeling the same. I have delayed my second shot for now till doctor signs off. I also sense dizziness in a hot shower which is super odd.

Call back from PCP ...seems I'm having acceptable side effect - advised to continue Medrol unless an itchy rash or trouble breathing develops. I'll do it, but I really hate doing it going into the weekend when my doc will be off. But I guess if I started having trouble breathing, they'd want me to go to the ER anyway... I don't like this game!!

  • Unfortunately you are singing to the choir. All of us on this forum share your problems and grief but a vaccine rushed to market and not fully tested is the other shared problem we on this forum share. Nobody takes responsibility and most docs don’t know themselves. Fortunately I have a very good compassionate ENT who doesn’t poo poo those of us who are suffering the reactions as many others do. Just have to wait it out and share the good news about what helps and warn the rest that they are not alone in this awful struggle. After eight weeks of symptoms I got one good day yesterday and it made me realize even more how poorly I have been feeling, but unfortunately I got a raging headache in the middle of the night (something that has never happened before) and today I feel like crap again. Have to look at the good side, one healthy day must mean this too shall pass. Hang in there everyone.

Hi again,

I just looked up Multisystem inflammatory syndrome connected to COVID 19, as mentioned by someone in a comment above. Here’s a link:
