Hi! I wanted to share a win here. I’ve found a regimen that seems to be working to manage my long-term vertigo after my second Pfizer shot. This is not about a few days of discomfort after the shot-we’re talking weeks-long complications here.  I am healthy, 26 year old female with lots of head trauma but no other pre-existing conditions. I am 99% certain my reaction was from my second vaccine.

Like most of the people here about 9 days after my second shot, I laid down to stretch and the wave of vertigo and nausea hit me like a truck. I went to bed early thinking rest would resolve it but when I woke in the morning, I  could hardly stand, let alone take my baby out of her crib or change the toddler’s diaper. The doctor gave me a general diagnosis of “vertigo” and a few things to control the nausea but that helped very little. After the “acute” phase I was no longer nauseous but could hardly walk and couldn’t care for my kiddos. After another week of this I saw another doctor who told me about labyrinthitis but didn’t offer much in the way of how to help myself. As a mom of two under two (the youngest is solely breastfed and entirely dependent on me for her food source) it was impossible for me to be out of commission for weeks or months longer. My husband is a grad student and could not juggle everything on his own any longer.  After some digging at home, I came across the labyrinthitis page here and found the forum and realized sooooo many others were dealing with the same thing.

I became determined to power through because clearly rest wasn’t going to help me be able to care for my babies. I started taking a daily allergy pill (Allertec-the Costco version of Zyrtec) and ibuprofen once a day to minimize the inflammation and that has made a tremendous difference. I am able to drive and care for my kiddos, go grocery shopping, do all but the most twisty/spinny chores (like unloading the dishwasher). I would say that I feel about 85-90% better with this daily concoction. Obviously, my body is different from anyone else’s but hopefully this can help someone else too! No fancy prescriptions, just regular at-home things and I am feeling much more like myself.

If you are dealing with labyrinthitis after  your second shot, try a simple daily allergy pill and an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen. It is helping me a LOT.

@marthachief How are you doing? How did Endo visit go? Hopefully they found the cause?

I developed atypical neuralgia about 10 years ago in my upper right molar. After 8 root canals they diagnosed me with atypical neuralgia (when they can’t diagnose you - you get put in that box)

I noticed 2 wks after my second Moderna shot, I began having ear pain/ Fullness, no fever.

My primary gave my antibodics and Flonase, saying I had an ear infection and a sinus infection.

A wk later went to ENT, he thinks I have ETD or TMD issues that he heard when my Left jaw clicked upon opening. But my ear pain is coming from the Right ear? I am on a course of steroids for now.

I do feel like the neuralgia is somehow tied into the reaction with the vaccine. Hopefully it will be short lived.

Best to all

New member here.

Got the 2nd Astra Zeneca vaccine 5 weeks ago. Everything was fine till 2 weeks later when I suddenly got a loud whining noise in my head and pulsatile tinnitus. I've had it since then.  It's not too noticeable during the day, but drives me crazy at night when it's quiet.  Please somebody tell me that this is just temporary as it's very hard to cope with! Definitely think it has to be vaccine related.

I'd love to hear from someone who has had this or something similar after the vaccine but has now recovered.

I have read that a lot of people are having vertigo from the vaccines. I had the Pfizer vaccine. Would love to hear if anyone has recovered from the vertigo and how long it took.

Thanks

Hello all,

This is my first post here.  I am, in a way, relieved to come across this thread, knowing that others have had similar side effects, and I am not alone in what I am experiencing.  The way it has been described in this thread tells me I am experiencing the same thing as many folks in here... it's "light dizziness", "weird lightheadedness", "not quite" vertigo... that all describes it so well.

I am a 31 year old male, of average health and fitness.  Last Thursday (May 13th), I received the first shot of the Moderna vaccine.  To be honest, I was the hesitant one in my household, but didn't want to let others down who were more keen about getting the vaccine.  I thought to myself "how bad could it be?" Well...

I would say, beginning on Saturday (May 15th), I began experiencing the dizziness.  I personally try to describe it as "feeling roughly 10-30% dizzy".  Like, not so dizzy as if you just got off a spinning amusement park ride (100%), and not *not* dizzy at all (0%), but somewhere just ambiently dizzy.  I would say that, at times, seemingly randomly, it can spike up to roughly 40-50% dizzy.  This can happen either after I take a walk, or if I'm sitting down watching TV, so it seems completely random.

In the mornings, I feel my best, it's barely noticeable when I first wake up.  But as the day progresses, there it is, the ambient 10-30% dizziness that just never goes away.  It's weird in that, I'm not falling over, or incapable of traversing stairs; but I would say I've been slightly clumsier than usual, when going to pick up a phone, or put down a mug, or something like that.  And if I've been standing in one spot for a moment, I worry about my footing when I go to back up.

Before finding this thread, I was very scared.  I've never experienced bouts of dizziness or lightheadedness throughout my life.  But now, I'm at least somewhat hopeful that it might pass.. eventually.

I plan on coming back to this thread daily and updating about my situation.  It sounds like a number of people start feeling better after Day 8?  So I will look forward to that.  I suppose I'm on Day 5 now.  And I've read that it sticks with others for weeks, if not months.

Thanks for reading, and I hope perhaps this gives someone else in my shoes some comfort in knowing they are not alone either.

@hilda

my ent assured me it was temporary. In the meantime suggested taking non-drowsy Dramamine and for the ringing, a fan, white noise machine, or Tinnitus Apps: Resound Relief or Resound Smart. Hope this helps

@smileyoer Great Question!

I have seen an ENT who thinks I have    Eustachian Tube Defect or TMD (my left jaw pops when opening, but ear pain is on the Left?

He gave me steroids and will order CT (he has one in his office, not sure if he’s biased?)

Best of luck !

I had my second dose of Astrazeneca yesterday. The first dose caused me fever with shivering for 2 days then I felt fine.

The second one no fever this time but a few minutes after taking the dose, I started feeling occasional sharp shots of pain in my head, just like someone pressing a needle inside. I got worried zi must confess but I tried to be strong believing it should go away.

It went away today, but this evening it came back.

I don't know if any of yiy have experienced this sharp pain. (no dizziness or headache)

Best wishes everyone

@smileyoer Me ENT prescribed steroids for inflammation either in the tubes or where he thinks I have TMD

My jaws pops on left side, but my right ear is clogged?!

Best of Luck!

@xtine I have started taking Tumeric & Vitamin D.  The former has anti-inflammatory properties. They haven’t made my symptoms disappear, but seem to help. They certainly aren’t making them worse at this point.   If you can take ibuprofen, it may be worth a try.

I ordered new contact lenses before getting the vaccine and didn’t get them until recently. I wouldn’t recommend it. Dizzy + Dizzy = Too much work for the brain.

I had my second Pfizer shot one week ago. I felt like my head had a balloon blowing up inside. Also felt disconnected from my feet when walking. Any stress at work causes that feeling of fullness in my head, and just walking around the block does also.
