Patient Perspective

Volunteer Policies & Procedures

Thank you for volunteering with VeDA!

We want your volunteer experience to be positive and fulfilling. Please contact Community Resource Coordinator, David Morrill, if you have any questions ([email protected]).

Recording Your Hours

It’s useful for us to track the number of volunteer hours for grants and reporting to our donors. Please report your hours using our tracking form monthly.

Insurance

VeDA does not provide insurance coverage for volunteers. We encourage you to check with your insurance provider to see if you are covered for illness or injury that may occur during your volunteer service. VeDA will not ask volunteers to perform potentially dangerous activities. We encourage you to put your health and wellness first when performing volunteer activities.

Schedule Changes

If you have committed to a volunteer activity (e.g., committee meeting) or task (e.g., writing an article), and you are unable to attend/complete it within the time discussed, please let us know ASAP. This is especially important for activities that are essential to daily administrative functioning and tasks with a deadline.

Breaks

VeDA encourages volunteers to take breaks as needed, with a minimum of one ten (10) minute break every two (2) hours. Many VeDA volunteers are still struggling with their vestibular symptoms. You should consider your health and welfare and not push yourself beyond your limits.

Minimum Commitment

There is no minimum or maximum number of hours to be an active VeDA volunteer. However, we ask that you participate in at least one activity per year and that you report your hours/activities.

Confidential Information

As a volunteer, you may be working with confidential information, such as member and/or donor names, addresses, etc. Under no circumstances should confidential information be shared with others outside the organization. We also ask that volunteers not give interviews to the news media without prior authorization or present themselves as a representative of VeDA without approval.

Resignation Procedures

If you can no longer commit to a volunteer position with VeDA, we ask that you inform us by phone or email. We also ask all volunteers to recommit to volunteering annually in January/February. People who do not respond will be automatically made inactive. We appreciate any feedback you have about your volunteer experience with VeDA. Feel free to send input and suggestions to David Morrill at [email protected].
